Manchester City have decided to keep Brazilian winger Savinho, dealing a blow to Tottenham’s hopes of signing the 21-year-old this summer.
Savinho to Tottenham Transfer Collapses as Guardiola Blocks Move
Despite strong interest from Spurs, Pep Guardiola has intervened, insisting the talented forward remains part of his plans.
Savinho, who joined City last season from Troyes, contributed three goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances.
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank identified him as a key target to strengthen his attack, especially after Son Heung-min’s departure.
However, Guardiola made his stance clear in a recent press conference, stating, “I’m only concerned that Savinho will be with us for the rest of the season—and hopefully many years”.
Reports suggest City initially considered selling Savinho if their €80 million (£65m) valuation was met, but Guardiola’s insistence on retaining the player forced a U-turn.
Spanish journalist Guillem Balague confirmed the decision, tweeting: “Manchester City have decided Savinho is to stay. That kills any possibility of Rodrygo joining City”.
The transfer collapse leaves Tottenham scrambling for alternatives, with Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze now their primary target.
Spurs had already seen a £60m bid for Savinho rejected, and City’s firm stance means negotiations are officially dead.
Adding to the complication, Savinho is currently injured and will miss the start of the season, further reducing any incentive for City to sell.
With the transfer window closing soon, Tottenham must pivot quickly to secure another attacking option before September 1.
For now, Savinho remains a Manchester City player—and Guardiola’s faith in his potential has ended Spurs’ pursuit.
