Pep Guardiola says Manchester City will make a last-minute call on Rodri’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest.
The Spaniard has been sidelined since early November with a hamstring injury that followed a long layoff due to a previous knee problem.
City’s boss confirmed that a decision on whether the influential midfielder will feature will come later today after assessing his condition in training.
Rodri returned to City’s training base on Christmas Day and has been working with the squad in sessions ahead of the tough match at the City Ground.
Guardiola described the 29-year-old as “much, much better,” but stopped short of confirming his inclusion, saying the final call would be made after today’s preparations.
City have been carefully managing Rodri’s fitness after months out, with his last appearance coming as a late substitute in early November.
If selected, the midfielder’s presence would be a welcome boost for a side pushing on all fronts this season.
In the same injury update, Guardiola also addressed the status of other key players.
Winger Jeremy Doku and defender John Stones remain on the sidelines and are not yet ready to return, though the manager expects both to come back soon.
Nottingham Forest sit 17th in the Premier League with 18 points from 17 games, but have proven to be a challenging opponent for City in recent years.
The Reds earned a 1-0 victory over the Citizens at the City Ground in March, and Guardiola has warned his side to be wary of Forest’s physicality and strong support from their home fans.
City currently remain in the hunt for major honours across competitions.
Guardiola has voiced optimism about the squad’s prospects as they aim to keep pressure on league leaders and maintain momentum in cup tournaments.
The potential return of Rodri would be a significant boost as the season enters a crucial phase.
The decision on Rodri’s availability is expected after the team’s final training session later today, with fans and pundits alike watching closely ahead of Saturday’s lunchtime kickoff.
