According to a source, Pep Guardiola has asked Manchester City to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong and former Liverpool player Sepp van den Berg. In a clear clue that he will remain manager, Guardiola has urged Manchester City to sign the two players. Although Guardiola’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, if this rumour is accurate, he is already organizing his team for the upcoming campaign.
Van Den Berg and his countryman Frimpong are being spied by Guardiola in a double deal. The 53-year-old hopes to entice Frimpong back to City by claiming that they “have a good relationship.” After rising through the ranks at City, Frimpong departed in September 2019 to join Celtic. In the historic 2023–24 season for Leverkusen, the right wingback was vital. With 14 goals and 12 assists in 47 games, he helped Xabi Alonso’s team go undefeated as they won the league and cup and advanced to the Europa League final.
Frimpong & Van den Berg on Guardiola’s Radar
Frimpong has made 16 appearances for Leverkusen this season; however, he has only managed one goal and six assists. Guardiola and City are very interested in his electric form. Frimpong is seen by the defending Premier League winners as the perfect alternative for Kyle Walker, who is currently 34 and nearing the end of his playing days.
Both are convincing, but it does appear to be a step City may take soon. The addition of Jeremie Frimpong to Pep Guardiola’s team would be excellent. If Manchester City chooses to make a play for the Dutch international is still up in the air.
