5. Brian Kidd: Players who played for Manchester City and Manchester United

Kidd was born and brought up in Manchester itself and trained in the United academy in 1964. He played as a forward as he became a professional player with United. In 1974, Kidd moved to Arsenal for a reported fee of £110,000, where he stayed till 1976 – which is when he joined Manchester City. He appeared 98 times for the Cityzens, and scored 44 goals. Presently, he is now the assistant manager of Manchester City alongside Pep Guardiola!

Kidd was additionally assistant manager under Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson from 1991 to 1998. In this job he was urgent in the advancement of a young batch of players known as Fergie’s Fledglings.

Pep Guardiola isn’t the first manager he’s assistant to at City though. He was also assistant to former Man City manager Roberto Mancini, who made Kidd his only assistant manager.

4. Peter Schmeichel is one of the top players who played for Manchester City and Manchester United

Schmeichel saw great success when he was at United and he is well known for being with the Red Devils, but what many aren’t aware of is that he also played with the cross-town counterparts. He was a goalkeeper with United for eight long years, and finally retired at Manchester City, where he played one season. He appeared 29 times for Man City, in the 2002 to 2003 campaign.

3. Carlos Tevez is one of the best players who played for Manchester City and Manchester United

Carlos Teves joined Manchester United in August 2007 on a two year loan contract. He started in place of Wayne Rooney, who was out injured and subsequently impressed as he scored his first goal in September against Portsmouth. Tevez made quite a mark at United, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Club World Championship – and the move to City later became one of the biggest ones.

In July 2009, Tevex went on to sign a deal for five year with town rivals Manchester City for a transfer fee of £47 million. City even put up a billboard especially to greet Tevez, which said, “Welcome to Manchester”.

2. Andy Cole: Players who played for Manchester City and Manchester United

Andy ‘Andrew’ Cole played with Manchester United before joining Manchester City. He only joined Manchester City for one season, however, he ended up finishing as the club’s top scorer that 2005 to 2006 campaign. What a great season!

However, now Andy Cole wishes that he enjoyed his time at Manchester United more and had more fun in this career.

“Just looking back, reflecting, you won something, you moved on,” Andy told host Stewart Gardner and our panel of former players. “What are we going to do next season?

“So yes, looking back, I wish I’d enjoyed it and spoke about it a little bit more. But I was so determined to move on to the next season, try my best and try to improve as an individual.

“I want to become a better person, a better player. So moving on wasn’t a problem for me. I never looked at my trophies, half of my shirts I’ve given to my kids. I’ve always been very focused, so having this time to reflect is a little bit different.”

1. Owen Hargreaves is one of the top players who played for Manchester City and Manchester United

He first played with Manchester United, who snapped him up from Bayern Munich for a reported fee of £17 million in July 2007. Hargreaves ended up signing a four year deal with the Reds Devils and played with them from 2007 to 2011. On 22 May 2011, Sir Alex Ferguson affirmed that the club would not offer Hargreaves another agreement. His agreement lapsed toward the finish of the 2010–11 season and he left the club, in spite of offering to play the 2011–12 season for no wages.

In August 2011, Hargreaves was reported having a medical with Manchester City and just a day later, it was confirmed that Owen Hargreaves would indeed be joining the Cityzens on a one year contract. However, his run with Manchester City wasn’t too great, and he ended up having only four appearances for the club over the span of one season, after which City decided not to renew his contract.
