According to a source, Manchester United is interested in signing Brentford striker Igor Thiago to Old Trafford in the summer of 2026. The Red Devils are also in negotiations with Kasen Brown, a possibility for Manchester City.
In the summer of 2025, Brentford lost Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, who paid £71 million (€81.6 million, or $96.7 million), plus add-ons, for the Brazil international forward. Mbeumo has made 22 appearances for Manchester United this season, tallying 10 goals and dishing out two assists.
Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly interested in Thiago, and Manchester United, who named Michael Carrick as their temporary manager for the remainder of the season in January, are said to have “discussed the in-form marksman”.
According to Sports Boom, Brentford would want for at least £71 million (€81.6 million, or $96.7 million) for Thiago. Thiago is a target for Manchester City, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, according to sources who spoke to Graeme Bailey, a transfer insider for TEAMtalk.
Man United have held talks over move to sign Man City star
One of the most active academies in Europe is still located in the city. Graduates like Cole Palmer and Phil Foden are prime examples of the path from the youth levels to senior recognition. The club’s depth, however, creates pressure points, and not all exceptional possibilities are given the chance to develop.
Because of his recent adventures, Brown’s reputation has increased. Playing in the Future Star Cup in Shanghai, where he scored and made two appearances as City finished fourth, brought him international fame. Often serving as launching pads, these young entrants assess both technical skill and disposition.
Manchester United’s curiosity appears to have a purpose. It is symbolic to undermine a local rival and increase academy depth. Opportunity, coaching philosophy, and path clarity will all play a role in Brown’s decision.
Tales from the city’s history act as cautions. Jadon Sancho and Morgan Rogers departed early and later proved their value elsewhere. Brown is at a similar point in his career, and his next move will likely influence how it unfolds.
