According to sources close to GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham Hotspur has received a major boost in their pursuit of Jack Grealish after the Manchester City player indicated that he would be willing to go to the capital provided Hotspur Way recruitment directors increased their offer.
Following his appointment as the replacement of Europa League-winning tactician Ange Postecoglou, Spurs head coach Thomas Frank has been allowed to spend big money, which is why Mohammed Kudus completed a £55 million transfer from West Ham United earlier this month.
However, Tottenham has been looking for more inventiveness before the transfer window closes on September 1. As a consequence, they tried to acquire Morgan Gibbs-White before he agreed to a new deal with Nottingham Forest, and Grealish is definitely on their radar as a potential addition.
According to GMS sources, Tottenham target Grealish is eager to transfer to London if a serious chance arises, and the money that came with qualifying for the Champions League has put Frank ahead of rival bidders West Ham United in the competition for his services.
Grealish Hands Spurs a Major Boost in Pursuit
According to Daniel Levy, Tottenham may have already had a ready-made Maddison successor in their ranks if the Morgan Gibbs-White transfer drama had gone differently.
However, when the Garibaldi threatened to take legal action, the Nottingham Forest star suddenly agreed to a new long-term deal at the City Ground, forcing Spurs to look elsewhere for a new number 10.
The general perception is that Grealish has been limited in his job as Man City’s left flanker, whereas he should have more creative flexibility in Frank’s engine room.
In spite of his poor play the previous season, Grealish is still among the top 1% of wingers and offensive midfielders in terms of progressive carries, averaging 7.71 per game, and he is in the 99th percentile for pass completion, at 87.7%.
Grealish’s wages would also be high, so it’s unknown if Tottenham is interested in signing him on a loan or permanent basis. However, he and Mohammed Kudus might both lessen the pain of perhaps losing Maddison for months.
