Manchester City defender Vitor Reis is reportedly pushing for a loan move this summer, just six months after arriving at the club in a high-profile transfer from Palmeiras.
Reis Seeks Man City Exit – Porto, Leverkusen & Girona in the Race
The 19-year-old centre-back joined City in January for a fee of around £29.6 million ($36m), with the club viewing him as a long-term prospect for their backline.
However, with competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s defence extremely fierce, Reis is now seeking more regular first-team football elsewhere.
According to Brazilian journalist Andre Hernan, Reis has formally asked the City hierarchy to consider loan options that would allow him to play consistently and further his development.
The Brazilian youngster is also hoping that more minutes on the pitch will boost his chances of earning a call-up to the senior national team.
Manchester City currently boast one of the most stacked defences in Europe, with Ruben Dias, John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, and Josko Gvardiol all ahead of Reis in the pecking order.
Despite his obvious potential, the teenager has found opportunities limited since arriving at the Etihad.
Interest in Reis is already growing. Portuguese giants FC Porto and Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have both submitted proposals for a loan deal.
Both clubs can offer top-level competition and valuable European experience key factors in Reis’ desire for a move.
Meanwhile, Girona a club owned by the City Football Group are also keen to sign Reis.
The La Liga side are reportedly interested in a double loan move involving Reis and fellow City talent Claudio Echeverri.
While Manchester City remain confident in Reis’ long-term potential, a loan move now seems likely as the player seeks the next step in his development on the European stage.
