Manchester City are leading the race for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland, but the German side’s CEO has said they would have to sell if City made a bid

Haaland’s contract with Dortmund has a £63 million release clause that must be activated by April 30, 2022.

City are rumoured to want Haaland at the Etihad, and Watzke believes Dortmund would be helpless to stop him.

According to reports, any projected proposal for Haaland would result in a total financial package of £301 million, including the £64 million (€75 million) release clause, agency fees, and the player’s salaries for the course of his contract.

If he decides to leave Germany for England this summer, this deal is projected to make him the highest-paid player in the Premier League.

Furthermore, Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed that if City made a formal proposal, the club would be compelled to sell.

Despite the ever-increasing possibility of losing its great players, Dortmund feels confident in identifying and growing another jewel to replace Haaland.

“Erling Haaland? We know still nothing from player side,” he said.

“But we know that we won’t be able to keep up financially if Manchester City come.

“It already happened with Lewandowski to Bayern and Aubameyang to Arsenal.”
