Pep Guardiola Has No Qualms Over Letting Jadon Sancho Leave

Pep Guardiola does not regret letting Jadon Sancho go from Manchester City.

Frustrated by the lack of any first-team opportunities, Sancho headed out to Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

It took him very little time to break out as a superstar, becoming Dortmund’s attacking talisman at just 18 years of age. Sancho flourished under Lucien Favre, drawing interests from all of the European big guns. Manchester United even came close to securing his services last summer before the move fell through.

Now, Sancho has the opportunity to face his former team in the Champions League quarter-finals. The Cityzens are the heavy favourites but one can expect a strong showing from BVB.

“I said many times, not a regret, he decides,” Guardiola told a news conference. “He’s doing really well, congratulations, an exceptional player. A national team player with huge quality, doing really well in Dortmund.

“We wanted him to stay but he decided to leave – when they decide to leave all we can do is [let them] leave. I wish him all the best except when he plays against us. If he’s happy, I’m happy.”

“Nobody knows – maybe he stays and we don’t play good or better. Every person decides the life they lead, other people have to respect it,” he continued. “We want him, he decides to go, all the best.”
