Manchester City has made Chelsea a formal offer of £25 million for Mateo Kovacic

The 29-year-old is being courted by City as they get ready to lose a few midfielders. Later this month, when his contract expires, Ilkay Gundogan is expected to become a free agent, while Bernardo Silva’s future is in doubt due to interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabia.

Man City has submitted a bid for Kovacic, who only has one year left on his contract, after reaching an agreement on personal terms. Chelsea has demonstrated little interest in extending his contract, and it is anticipated that they will approve a sale this summer.

Kovacic hinted at a summer departure while representing Croatia on international duty after falling down the Stamford Bridge pecking order. Kovacic told Nacional (via football.london) that “everything is pointing towards the fact that, after five good years (at Chelsea), I will change.”

But anything can happen in football. My contract with Chelsea is still valid for another year. The previous season was awful. I’m currently concentrating on Croatia and the Nations League. The length of the summer will determine what transpires. Chelsea is fantastic in my opinion. Both the city and my supporters love me. The memories I have of Chelsea are amazing. We’ll have to wait and see.

Following the completion of the Nations League on Sunday, Kovacic is expected to become City’s first acquisition of the summer window as Pep Guardiola attempts to bolster his team in preparation for the upcoming campaign. Josko Gvardiol, a defender for RB Leipzig and Kovacic’s international partner, may also be moving to the Etihad Stadium soon as personal details are nearly finalised.
