Manchester City is anticipated to make a formal offer for Rennes forward Jeremy Doku the following week

Doku is a top contender on City’s list of prospective Riyad Mahrez replacements. Mahrez just completed a £30 million transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

Despite rumours, City are not considering a deal for either Raphinha of Barcelona or Dani Olmo of RB Leipzig, as City Xtra exclusively revealed last month. The reigning European champions were previously thought to be still searching for their ideal Mahrez replacement, with interest being shown in both Doku and Michael Olise of Crystal Palace.

On Friday night, it was announced that Manchester City and Doku’s representation had reached a personal agreement. The Blues had been monitoring the 21-year-old since his performances at the 2019 Kevin De Bruyne (KDB) Cup in Belgium. A decision on the immediate future of Cole Palmer, a recent graduate of the academy, is still up in the air, according to rumours in France that Manchester City are attempting to clinch a deal for Doku as quickly as possible.

Doku, who is valued at around £30 million by Ligue 1 team Rennes, is anticipated to receive a bid from City in the upcoming week, according to Jack Gaughan of the Daily Mail. After bringing in Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol this summer, Manchester City is still in talks with West Ham to bring in Lucas Paqueta, who is viewed as the ideal offensive midfielder to take the place of Ilkay Gundogan.

West Ham is likely to want more than £90 million from the Premier League winners in exchange for Paqueta, and it is also anticipated that the Hammers’ asking price for the 25-year-old may be influenced by Kevin De Bruyne’s most recent hamstring injury, which he suffered in City’s league opener against Burnley.
