Top 10 Manchester City players that never made it

Here we will look at the Top 10 Manchester City players that never made it. Which players will you remember? Some players have been absolute gems at Manchester City and have on to have very successful careers at Manchester City or elsewhere. While others just never quite made it at Manchester City.

Manchester City is a club based in Manchester, England with a rich club history that goes back 126 years.

Since the Abu Dhabi United Group took over and bought the club, the club has become even a stronger force in European football, his investments have been well worth it.

The club has had a lot of players over the years, and some have gone on to become club legends while others have failed to make an impact at the club.

10. David Pizzaro never made it

Kicking off the list of the Top 10 Manchester City players that never made it is David Pizzaro. The striker moved to Manchester City on loan from Italian side Roma but he only managed to play seven times during City’s first-ever Premier League winning season under Roberto Mancini.

The retired Chilean midfielder played for Club Universidad de Chile during the final years of his career.

9. Maicon – Manchester City players that never made it

Maicon was meant to be a marquee signing for the Cityzens but that never worked out. The Brazilian joined Manchester City in 2012 for a fee of £3 million but struggled a lot to break into the first team.

In his first and only season with the club, he made 13 appearances as he struggled with injuries throughout the season. He then returned to Serie A after Manchester City allowed him to move on a free transfer to Roma.

8. Jerome Boateng never made it

Manchester City paid £10.4 million for the German international where he usually played in the right-back and centre-back position. The World Cup winner never played in his favoured position as a central defender at Man City but he was used as a fullback instead.

He then expressed his desire to leave Etihad for Bayern Munich in 2011 where he would eight Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies.

Boateng said in an interview back in 2011: ‘It is true that I have agreed with Bayern on a four-year deal. Now it is up to Manchester to make it work.

‘My dream is to have a starting spot within a year, hopefully at Bayern, and then I want to win the European championship (with Germany).’

Robbie Fowler is undoubtedly one of the greatest Premier League strikers of all-time. He scored 128 league goals for Liverpool and was nicknamed ‘God’ by many Liverpool fans.

By the time he arrived at Man City, he was on the decline, with a hip injury causing him discomfort and restricting his movement. He was at City between 2003 and 2006, scoring just 20 league goals in 80 games.

The former Celtic star who won three league titles with the Scottish outfit never made it at Manchester City.

He has played just 18 times since coming to the club and has been unconvincing, often appearing overly anxious to make an impression.

He lashed out in one of his interviews back in 2016 and insisted he never joined City for the money.

“It’s easy for people to say, ‘Oh, he went for the money, he got the contract and is not fussed about football’,” Sinclair added. “But anyone who knows me knew that I wasn’t happy just signing the contract then relaxing and sitting back.

3. Daniel Sturridge – Manchester City players that never made it

Daniel Sturridge started his professional career with Manchester City in 2006. In the 2007–08 season, he became the only player ever to score in the Youth FA Cup, the FA Cup and the Premier League in the same season. From his 21 League appearances, he scored 5 goals.

The 31-year-old had one of the best minutes per goal ratio in the Premier League but injuries have stopped him from hitting his true potential as a footballer.

2. Robinho – Manchester City players that never made it

The biggest transfer for Manchester City since Sheikh Mansour took over the club in 2008 was a big failure. He was signed from Real Madrid for around £32.5 million and he was meant to be the man to kickstart Man City’s new chapter in world football.

The forward was a massive success in his first season at Manchester, as his flair and goalscoring ability made him a star in the Premier League. Next season, he endured an ankle injury which ruled him out for three months and restricted him to just 10 league appearances.

Eventually, after an unsuccessful second season with the Cityzens he was shipped off to Santos on loan and eventually sold to Milan.

1. Mario Balotelli – Manchester City players that never made it

While he’s loved and adored at the Etihad Stadium, and rightfully so, Mario Balotelli used to be one of the lethal strikers in world football. He has scored around 30 goals in 75 matches for the Cityzens.

He used to fight with his teammates during his time at the Etihad. He had arguments with Micah Richards, club captain Vincent Kompany and a few others.

Mario also had a grumpy relationship with then-manager Roberto Mancini. Mancini criticised the Italian striker as a player who lacks discipline after several red cards and club fines.

He finally left for Milan after three controversial years at the Etihad. But his golden days were past indeed. So he ranks pretty high amongst the Players Never Made It At Manchester City.
