Barcelona has been pushing hard to sign Gundogan on a free transfer.
The German midfielder will be out of contract when the season concludes in the coming weeks.
He was Pep Guardiola’s first signing when he took over the managerial role in 2016.
The 32-year-old has won four Premier League titles with Man City and has scored 51 goals in 267 games.
It is understood that Barcelona are keen to sign the German midfielder this summer as a free agent.
But Gundogan will demand a high salary and Barcelona don’t have enough funds left in their transfer budget.
Manager Pep Guardiola will definitely love to keep the midfielder who has been an integral figure in his team for seven years now.
Gundogan said: “There are talks in the background. That’s quite normal with just a couple of months left but there is nothing decided yet from my side or the club’s side, so the talks are continuing.
“If there’s a decision at one point, you guys will be the first ones to know.”
