Manchester City faces a big blow ahead of Manchester derby as their defender Manuel Akanji will miss next weekend’s clash. Man City beat Brighton 2-1 in their Premier League encounter.

Manuel Akanji was sent off in City’s home win on Saturday. He was dismissed for two bookable offenses, with his first yellow card received for a foul on Kaoru Mitoma midway through the second half.

Manchester City would look to find a better replacement to boost their defence area. They are back on the winning track with a win over Brighton. Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland helped the reigning winners to win the game for the Cityzens.

However, Akanji will be available during the Champions League fixture against Young Boys on Wednesday. The defender will miss an important Premier League fixture just four days later.

The 28-year-old will be forced to miss Man City’s next top-flight match against Man United at the Etihad next Sunday. Akanji has had mixed success against the city rivals in previous meetings, winning three and losing two of his five encounters.
