Man City's Erling Haaland sets new records in Champions League

He has scored five goals in as many group-stage games this season.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland played a vital role in Man City’s emphatic comeback win over RB Leipzig. He also sets new goal-scoring records in the Champions League.

Man City required at least a draw to secure top spot in Group G having already qualified for the last 16 along with Leipzig. First-half was not great for City as they were two goals down, thanks to a double strike from Lois Openda.

Haaland placed a side-footed finish beyond Janis Blaswich on the 54th-minute mark. Phil Foden equalised in the 70th minute. Julian Alvarez came off the substitutes’ bench to find a winner in the 87th minute.

Haaland was last season’s Golden Boot winner in the Champions League. He has scored five goals in as many group-stage games this season.

The Norwegian has taken his goal tally to 40 after just 35 games and this is the fastest ever to reach that landmark. At the age of 23 and 130 days, Haaland has also become the youngest player to score 40 Champions League goals. He broke the record of PSG’s Kylian Mbappe (23 years and 317 days).
