Pep Guardiola reveals Kevin De Bruyne’s anticipated return for Manchester City

Manchester City fans will have to patiently wait for Pep Guardiola to reveal more about Kevin De Bruyne’s expected return.

The Belgian midfielder, who has been out since the season opening against Burnley, is anticipated to return in mid-December, increasing chances of a Club World Cup appearance.

However, Guardiola stated in a weekend update that De Bruyne will not play until the new year.

“If he said January, it will be January,” Guardiola said.

“I would have loved to have him all season but now he has a tough injury and surgery and he said end of December or New Year so it will be a happy new year for everyone.”

Guardiola said: “I think he would have preferred to be with us but football is a lot of years already. He is not 21 anymore, time runs and he unfortunately had this injury.

He has to recover and make a step back again. Recover well, prepare well and after one week he won’t be perfect but even off the bench he will be a good weapon for us.”

Guardiola hinted at a careful approach, illustrating the importance of De Bruyne regaining full health and rhythm after the holidays. Despite the defeat, the manager remains dubious that the midfielder will benefit mentally from his time on the bench.

Guardiola recognized the toll of being City’s talisman for many hard seasons, suggesting that the break may not have provided De Bruyne with the needed relaxation.

City fans will now have to wait until the new year for the thrilling midfielder’s return, hoping that he will bring a renewed vitality to the side.

Guardiola’s cautious optimism hints that, while his physical recovery is progressing, the important playmaker’s mental rejuvenation may take a little longer.
