Ortega already has a contract until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Manchester City are reportedly making every effort to agree a new contract with goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. He arrived on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

The 31-year-old was perceived to be a relatively low-key addition to the Cityzens. Ederson is Pep Guardiola’s best player with gloves and is also the first-choice goalkeeper. Ortega had played most of his career at Arminia Bielefeld.

Ortega has made 22 starts and two substitute outings across all competitions. He has contributed to seven points from Premier League fixtures against Brighton, Newcastle and Liverpool this season.

Ederson sustained an injury during the second half at Anfield. Ortega replaced him and the match ended in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

Ederson is out for the remainder of the month and Ortega is expected to play in the FA Cup quarter-final tie with Newcastle. Man City will later meet Arsenal after the March international break.

Ortega already has a contract until the end of the 2024-25 season. Ortega has featured on seven occasions this season, including three starts in the FA Cup and two in the Champions League.
