Pep Guardiola not surprised by Foden’s burst in form

Pep Guardiola not surprised by Foden's burst in form

Pep Guardiola reserved some praise for the talented Phil Foden.

The England international has fallen down the pecking order behind both Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez in the past few weeks.

He has now scored four goals in his last three appearances and the winger is slowly regaining his form.

He suffered an ankle injury in January in a game against Manchester United and struggled to gain his confidence back.

Foden took on four players to score via a deflection against Newcastle United to give City the lead in the 15th minute.

Pep Guardiola went on to explain how Foden lacked confidence on his return in mid-February.

“(I told him) it was important to accept it, the struggle with his ankle, accept it,” Guardiola told a news conference.

“That’s the most important thing. Don’t blame the opponent, don’t blame the manager or the club or the mates or whatever. Accept: I can do better. Come back to your principles and step by step you will be back.”

“What happened with Phil was completely, completely normal,” the Spaniard added. “I said, the bad moments, these too shall pass. It’s always like that.”

Guardiola feels City side are being dealt with more harshly by referees

Guardiola feels City side are being dealt with more harshly by referees

Man City head revealed his frustration about officials ahead of the Newcastle game.

We have seen some controversial referrals in Premier League this season but Man City boss Pep Guardiola feels his side are being dealt with more harshly by referees than other teams.

It’s strange to understand because last month we saw how Arsenal dropped two points due to poor VAR call. Meanwhile, City manager will not complain to the Premier League having been angered by the recent charges imposed on the club by the competition for alleged breaches of financial rules.

Man City head revealed his frustration about officials ahead of the Newcastle game. When asked about this in his pre-match press conference, Guardiola said: “It depends on the referee but I’m pretty sure the (time-wasting) yellow will be for Ederson.

“How many thousand million games do teams come to Etihad Stadium and waste time for the keepers?

“Twenty seconds every time – the goal kick, long ball, long ball and nothing happened. Absolutely nothing happened.

“And after we go to Arsenal away, with a team that wants to be active to play and we get a yellow card.

“That is why I’m far away (from making) comments about the referees because I don’t care one second. They can do whatever they want.”

City were charged with more than 100 breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations by the Premier League last month and Guardiola feels any contact is better left to other club officials or lawyers.

“I don’t talk with the Premier League, we are accused by them,” said Guardiola. “No (contact with) referees, no Premier League, no care.

“How many times after press conference do I complain about referees or make an appointment? I don’t even know before games who the referee is going to be and I don’t talk with them before or after.

“And now we can’t talk about the Premier League or whatever. We are busy defending with our lawyers. I don’t have time to spend time with that.”

Vieira opens up about how Manchester City has influenced him to be a football manager

Vieira opens up about how Manchester City has influenced him to be a football manager
bildbyran

Patrick Vieira, a former midfielder for Manchester City, has spoken about the part the City Football Company played in his ascent to the position of football manager

At the Financial Times Business of Football summit, which examined why there are so few black people in places of power in the sport, the Crystal Palace manager was a keynote interviewee.

While only 4% of managers in the top four divisions are black, including Burnley manager and former City defender Vincent Kompany, Vieira is the only black manager in the Premier League at the moment. Before Crystal Palace, he played with Kompany and served as a coach for City’s Academy and CFG team New York City FC.

The Clarets are currently in first place in the Championship and will play at the Etihad Stadium in the FA Cup quarterfinals, according to the 46-year-old, who also claimed that their experience at the Club contributed to their ability to manage at the highest level. Vieira began coaching at City’s Academy after making his final appearance in City’s 2011 FA Cup victory before assuming control of the EDS team.

After a brief return to France with Nice, he then relocated to New York City FC in the United States before taking over an exciting and gifted Palace team. Despite Vieira and Kompany’s and the sport’s success, there are still too few black people in top positions, especially when compared to the Premier League, where 43% of players are black.

Kolo Toure recently served as the head coach at Wigan, and Vieira believes more needs to be done to support black coaches. Yaya Toure is currently the coach at Tottenham, and Vieira hopes he will get a chance to manage. Vieira aspires to serve as an inspiration for black players who might be thinking about a job in management or coaching in the future.

Pep Guardiola aims to go beyond the FA Cup semi-final this season.

The Cityzens won 3-0 against Championship side Bristol City to secure their spot in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.

They are favourites to bring home the trophy this season since winning it last in 2019.

Since their last FA Cup triumph, they have exited thrice in the semi-finals in the subsequent years.

The Premier League champions were blessed with Phil Foden’s work ethic after the England international scored a brace against Stephen Lansdown’s men.

For the first time this season, Pep Guardiola has almost all of his squad fit and available for some crucial games ahead.

“This competition is so nice,” said Guardiola. “We won once, we arrived at three semi-finals but we didn’t perform well.

“I remember those semi finals mainly because they were just three days after away games in the Champions League and we were exhausted. Hopefully this season we can go through, arrive in better conditions to complete the final of the FA Cup because it is a really nice competition.”

Julian Alvarez unhappy with the lack of playing time at Manchester City

Julian Alvarez unhappy with the lack of playing time at Manchester City
bildbyran

Manchester City has extended a new contract offer to Julian Alvarez, but he is uncertain if he will receive the playing time he desires at the Etihad Stadium

Despite Alvarez’s impressive performances for Argentina at the FIFA World Cup and with City when given the opportunity to play at the club level, Erling Haaland has been forced to take second place to Alvarez for the bulk of the 2022–23 season.

Alvarez has only started six games in the Premier League since joining City from River Plate in the summer, but he has still scored five goals in 707 minutes of league play.

Despite his limited playing time, the 23-year-old has impressed City enough that, as 90 Minutes knows, they have extended their offer to him for an additional five years with a significantly better financial package. Sources have since told 90min that Alvarez is not happy with his present playing time and does not see himself gaining more time anytime soon.

Due to this, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Barcelona have all expressed interest in the player’s situation. However, 90min is aware that Manchester City has no plans to let one of their prized young assets depart the team. However, they do want him to be content, which is what led them to give him a new contract even though his current one doesn’t expire until 2027.

Alvarez will be aiming to make his second FA Cup start of the year on Wednesday night when City takes on Bristol City of the Championship.

Bristol City takes on Manchester City in the FA Cup clash on Sunday night. Bristol City have a slim chance of winning the FA Cup which no one expected earlier last season. Guardiola has struggled to stabilise the ship and has them fighting for the Premier League title this season.

City will need to be very dominant if they plan on winning this tie. Potter’s men know how to move the ball around quickly and take advantage of defensive gaps.

We can expect a tired showing since both sides have players coming from back-to-back league games. This means the same players could reappear from the last games, a bit fatigued. Here we will give you an answer to the most frequently asked question about Manchester City – Bristol City.

Pep Guardiola hails exceptional mood amongst his Manchester City players

Guardiola said that he expects no less from his players in their duty to the team’s fans.

Pep Guardiola praised the “exceptional” mood amongst his Man City players after they earned three points against Bournemouth. The Cityzens kept the Premier League title race alive by thrashing.

The Sky Blues ran out comfortable 4-1 winners at the Vitality Stadium. Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden put City in command in the very first half. Chris Mepham deepened Bournemouth’s woes with an own goal shortly after the interval.

“I’m very pleased with what I’m seeing every day,” said Guardiola.

“The mood of the locker room is exceptional, the training sessions are really, really good. Everyone is helping each other.

It was the first victory in three for the Cityzens, who dropped two points away to Nottingham Forest in their last league outing before drawing the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie away to RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

Guardiola also added: “It’s tough because we played a lot of games away this last month. No recovery, three days between games, big travel. A lot of pressure, demanding physicality.

“Today we came here and behaved in the way we behaved. It made me feel we still have the desire to try and to try. We will try to fight for this Premier League, I don’t have any doubts.”

Guardiola said that he expects no less from his players in their duty to the team’s fans, who had travelled down from Manchester.

“The players will be in trouble if they don’t do it,” said the manager. “They will be in trouble. When fans come five or six hours in their cars, buy a ticket, with our salaries, we have to run whether it’s 3-0, 4-0, 5-0.

“It sounds like I am a demagogue, but it’s the truth. You can perform well or bad. But the effort in this club whilst I’m here never will be put in doubt.

“We see the faces how happy they are when we win. You produce a good feeling in people, families. Tell me something else that can be better than that. Our supporters away are incredible.”
