Pep Guardiola fires Premier League title warning ahead of Arsenal trip

Guardiola has told Arsenal they will have to “fight” to take the crown.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola fires a title warning ahead of Wednesday night’s top-of-the-table clash with title favourites Arsenal.

Man City and Arsenal separate each other by just three points. Arsenal dropped points in the last two games and it helped Man City to reduce the gap. Meanwhile, Arsenal have one game in hand.

Victory for either side could prove monumental in their title bids. Arsenal could extend their lead to six points, while City could climb above Arsenal to the number one spot on goal difference should they snatch a win.

The Sky Blues are looking to win the trophy for a third successive season, while Arsenal are chasing their first league title since 2004.

Guardiola has told Arsenal they will have to “fight” to take the crown, insisting his side will fight until the last day to defend their title.

“The biggest motivation is that I don’t want to drop the Premier League just because we are not who we are,” Guardiola said (via the Guardian).

“If they beat us because they are better then this is sport, I’ll be the first to congratulate them, as I’ve always done. But not because we are not there.

“You want it? OK, fight. Take it. It’s in our hands. We’ll defend this title until the last day. This is what I’d like. To fight to the maximum to try to retain the title.

“If we don’t, accept it. But we need to give our best. My players have to feel that every day.”

When asked whether his message to his players will be to enjoy the occasion at the Emirates, Guardiola said: “I don’t know if enjoy is the right word.

“We have to be so aggressive, handle the rhythm and pressure. They are going to create pressure on us through the fans, the referee, the players. We have to be so active in many things.”

Pep Guardiola has apologised to Steven Gerrard after making reference to the infamous mistake made by the former captain of Liverpool on Friday while vehemently defending Manchester City against claims of financial impropriety

The City manager posed the hypothetical question of whether City should also bear responsibility for Gerrard’s misfortune in 2014, which resulted in a Chelsea goal and victory that gave the Manchester team the lead in a close title race.

In response to Guardiola’s call to arms, City supporters sang about the incident as they created a rowdy environment at the Etihad Stadium for the 3-1 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

I apologise to Steven Gerrard for my unneeded and dumb statements I made about him the last time, Guardiola said ahead of Wednesday’s top-of-the-table Premier League match with Arsenal.

Erling Haaland’s ability to go with City to the Emirates Stadium is still uncertain. The top scorer in the Premier League was taken off versus Villa at halftime after suffering a knock. Prior to the top-of-the-table match at the Emirates Stadium, the Norwegian, who has scored 25 goals in the tournament this season, participated in a rehabilitation session on Monday. However, he still requires more evaluation.

Guardiola was asked if Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has an advantage over other teams in the title battle because of his time spent with Man City. He responded, ‘The period was primarily Liverpool, we can’t claim Liverpool didn’t have the experience under pressure.’

Manchester City will aim to secure the top spot in the league table on Wednesday.

The Cityzens will travel to Emirates on Wednesday for their next Premier League game which could be a crucial game for both Manchester City and Arsenal.

Arsenal holds a three-point lead against their bitter rivals Manchester City who are aiming to win all three points on their visit to the Emirates.

Club midfielder Rodri demands his side should bring on their title-winning mentality this week.

“If I’m honest, we don’t think about these things, we don’t think if we are favourites or not despite what we have done. There are still 16 games, it’s a lot,” Rodri said.

“We have the chance to go and be on top of the table. I hope we can show the best performance of the team against the best opponents right now in the Premier League, they have showed until now.

“I think we have to show our personality, our champion personality, from this moment until we go to the Emirates, show we can fight against them and we can put on a good game.”

Erling Haaland in doubt for City’s midweek clash against Arsenal.

The Gunners will host Pep Guardiola’s men at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

In the game against Aston Villa, Haaland received a knock in the first half and was taken off as a precaution.

The Norwegian international has scored 25 goals in 20 games in his debut Premier League season.

City has closed the gap to three points to Arsenal and would desperately want to secure a win at the Emirates.

Manager Pep Guardiola assures the striker would be assessed over the next few days and the extent of his thigh injury is still unclear.

“Erling has a kick and we will see in the next days how he will do,” Guardiola told a news conference on Sunday.

“At halftime I spoke with the doctors and they said maybe don’t take risks at 3-0 up and I agree with the doctors. Maybe if it was more tight then I don’t do it.

“I think it is not injured but tomorrow [Monday] we will see. Maybe [he can play] Wednesday but if there is some risks he is not going to play.”

After City faced over 100 financial charges, Guardiola accused rival Premier League teams of being envious

Pep Guardiola has reiterated that no one can take Manchester City’s championship titles away, saying the Premier League’s case against the team is based on other teams’ resentment

On Monday, City were charged with more than 100 financial violations; as a result, they may lose their titles as a result of the penalties. Guardiola, however, is sure that no one can erase their accomplishments or memories. Four of City’s Premier League titles were won under Guardiola. The allegations concern incidents that occurred between 2009 and 2018.

Guardiola acknowledges that some people may feel their championships are tarnished, but he has sworn to uphold the club’s honour and stated he is more committed than ever to stay.

Guardiola has been loud in his defence of others at the club despite not being personally charged. He stated: “When I say I am happy of my owners, pleased of my chairman for this period we’ve had together, I rely a lot on the past, now you cannot understand. I’ll be here if they want me to be.

Guardiola is still irate that nine other teams wrote to Uefa to ask them to kick his team out of the Champions League after City was charged by the organisation in 2020.

And he feels that envy is once more at the root of a problem, stating: “That is part of the sport. A winning team is one that you desire to defeat. That’s lovely. It occurs. But I will never forget what these nine teams did. For the significant sum of money needed to pay for the stadiums they erected, they desire a spot in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, thinks the team is well-positioned to combat the serious financial claims made by the Premier League

Following a four-year inquiry, the Premier League winners were charged with over 100 financial code violations that occurred between 2009 and 2018.

On Sunday, City welcomes Aston Villa to the Etihad Stadium in an effort to rebound after a close setback to Tottenham the previous week. Tottenham defeated Pep Guardiola’s team, who put up an unexpectedly feeble and lacklustre performance in north London, thanks to Harry Kane’s game-winning goal.

For the first time since the Premier League penalised Manchester City earlier this week for breaking financial fair play rules, Guardiola addressed the media on Friday afternoon. The Catalan was questioned about his communication with Ferran Soriano and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the chairman and CEO of City, since the news broke on Monday morning.

Arsenal, who are in first place and have a game in hand over City, are still in contention for a third straight league championship, but City are still in second place and are five points behind them. Guardiola was also questioned about how he can retain the team’s attention on problems on the field despite the distraction that the Premier League’s claims will unavoidably generate.

When City and Pep Guardiola welcome Aston Villa to the Etihad Stadium, they will have a chance to make a statement to the rest of the division. The matchup against the Midlands side offers City an excellent opportunity to get back on track and maintain the pressure on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal. The reigning English champions have come under fire for their lacklustre performances of late.

Joao Cancelo joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on loan.

The Portuguese defender made his move to the Allianz Arena on a six-month loan until the end of this season.

The Bavarians has been longtime admirers of the 28-year-old defender who has already bagged two assists in his last two games.

Bayern Munich could make the deal permanent by paying €70 million in the summer after the loan deal expires.

Cancelo made 26 appearances for City this term but has fallen down the pecking order following the World Cup.

He has been a star peformer under Pep Guardiola but have found himself on the bench in recent weeks.

Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann has been a huge admirer of the Portuguese international.

“He’s a likeable guy who is very ambitious and can get a bit impatient when things don’t go well. He’s experienced. He played a very good game. He has a very high level of creativity. He’s also a good guy to train with,” Nagelsmann said.

“He prefers to play on the right rather than on the left. He has great ability to go inside, has a good shot, dynamism and good crosses, he has different characteristics than the players we already have in these positions.”

Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, is one of the three candidates for the prestigious Best FIFA Men’s Coach award in 2022

The award honours outstanding coaching accomplishments in the men’s game from August 8, 2021, to December 18, 2022. Guardiola guided City to an incredible fourth Premier League victory in five years, which was capped by a thrilling finish to the 2021–2022 season in which we rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Aston Villa 3-2 in the pivotal last game of the year.

City once more received praise from the general public for the striking manner of our most recent title victory. The Club scored 99 goals throughout the season and once again produced a blend of beguiling, offensive football.

The Catalan also guided City to the semifinals of the Champions League before we were eliminated painfully by Real Madrid in the second leg in extra time. Pep was among the initial five individuals shortlisted, and has since been chosen as one of three finalists by an international jury made up of men’s national team coaches, captains, football journalists, and fans who cast votes on FIFA’s official website.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who led the Spanish powerhouses to a Champions League and La Liga double during the 2021/22 season and also won the Supercopa de Espana and the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, is also vying for the prize. Lionel Scaloni, the head coach of Argentina, rounds up the list of nominees after leading the South American country to World Cup triumph in Qatar in 2022. Each voter selected their top three candidates for the award from the initial selection of five.

Nominees were awarded points based on their placement (five points for first, three for second and one for third). Each of the four voting groups—coaches, captains, journalists, and fans—contributed 25% to the final vote total. The person with the highest votes will be given the Best FIFA Men’s Coach Award. The winner will be revealed during a ceremony in Paris on February 27, 2023. Before the awards ceremony, everyone at City wishes Pep luck.

Gary Neville feels sorry for Manchester City and its players.

Manchester City has been charged with alleged offences relating to a period between 2009 and 2018 with potential punishments if proven guilty.

The punishments can range from fines to relegation from the Premier League.

The club is accused of over 100 breaches of Financial Fair Play rules.

There would be a long legal battle before a verdict is reached and could potentially lead to Pep Guardiola’s departure.

Neville said on his programme The Overlap: “There’s been massive respect towards Manchester City over the last seven or eight years, in terms of what we’ve seen on the pitch.

“They are determined that they’ve not done anything wrong, and I feel as if they don’t like the idea of the established elite not liking what they are doing.

“Clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal – the historic, traditional big clubs, don’t like this idea of the newcomer coming on the block and doing what they’re doing.”

Manchester City were hit with 115 charges relating to the Premier League’s financial rules.

The club has been charged with alleged offences relating to a period between 2009 and 2018 with potential punishments if proven guilty.

The punishments can range from fines to relegation from the Premier League.

Former Man City player and Burnley manager Vincent Kompany claims it is wrong for outsiders to point fingers at his old club.

The Burnley boss has won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups during an 11-year spell at the Etihad.

Kompany said: “I kind of look at it and sometimes roll my eyes a little bit.

“No doubt there’s a lot of righteousness in the world to come and tell you what you’ve done wrong, and then if everybody looks at themselves, I think the football industry in general is not one that can afford to point the finger too many times.

“Do the best for yourself and let’s try and improve all the time but I’m a little bit sceptical when the fingers get pointed easily.”
