Manchester City targets defensive prodigy Giorgio Scalvini in €50 million move

Manchester City is supposedly interested in signing Atalanta defensive star Giorgio Scalvini as they prepare for the upcoming January transfer window. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, City has formally inquired about the 20-year-old prodigy, with an estimated €50 million charge.

Scalvini, who debuted for Atalanta as a 17-year-old, has quickly risen to prominence, not only securing his spot in La Dea’s starting XI but also earning seven caps for Italy.

Scalvini has made 18 appearances this season, showing his potential as one of Europe’s most sought-after center-backs. He is known for his superb ball-playing talents and physical toughness against powerful strikers.

Pep Guardiola, who is claimed unhappy with his present defensive options, views Scalvini as a possible addition to the squad. The young Italian has already shown his talent, implying much more potential under Guardiola’s direction.

Despite signing Josko Gvardiol in the summer, Guardiola has chosen to use the Croatian mostly as a left-back, paving the way for Scalvini to remain a target.

The €50 million price tag may look high for a player his age, but Atalanta appears willing to negotiate, reportedly considering offers in the amount of €45 million plus bonuses.

As City examines the situation, the prospective signing of Scalvini might prove to be a good long-term investment, with the skilled defender expected to become a regular starter for the Citizen over the next decade.

The January transfer window promises to be interesting as City looks to reinforce its defensive foundations with the purchase of the potential Italian wonder.
