Mateo Kovacic joined Manchester City from Chelsea in a £30m deal.

The Croatian midfielder has penned a four-year contract and will be City’s first signing of the summer.

He is earmarked as the direct replacement for Ilkay Gundogan who decided to end his seven-year spell with the Cityzens to join Barcelona as a free agent.

Kovacic is a seasoned winner having already won four Champions League titles and one Europa League among 14 career trophies.

He will prepare for the pre-season with Man City as the squad looks to face Bayern Munich on June 26.

The 29-year-old discussed about his new teammates and waxed lyrical about club prodigy Phil Foden.

Kovacic said: “I think Phil Foden is probably the player that can dominate and that [has] already won so much throughout his young career and showing every game that he is on a big level and a huge, huge talent.

“As well in this game [Champions League final] when he came on he was great, and to see his movement and his skill, I think he’s a special player. Very similar to David Silva maybe, this is the type of player that I see in Foden.”
