Mateo Kovacic wants his compatriot Josko Gvardiol to join Manchester City.

Josko Gvardiol is one of the highest-rated young centre-halves in Europe and has been impressive for RB Leipzig over the past two seasons.

He has been amazing in Qatar as Croatia finished third in the World Cup and has played 21 times for the international side.

Man City are looking to reinforce their defensive options as Aymeric Laporte is expected to leave the Etihad this summer.

Summer signing Mateo Kovacic has quickly settled into life at Manchester and believes his international teammate Gvardiol would be a perfect addition to his new club.

“Of course I’d like him (Gvardiol) to join. I know he’s very young and has great potential. He can come here and learn and be the best version of himself, like he wants to be for sure.

“But it’s not for me to comment if it’s going to happen or not. I’d obviously like it – I’m a good friend with him and he’s Croatian. It would be nice to have a Croatian by my side here.”
