Pep Guardiola, Manchester City coach is believed determined to win a new deal for John Stones, extending his stay at the club until 2027. Stones’ current contract, which was signed for £47.5 million is scheduled to end in 2026.
Stones was a significant help to the squad last season, showing his versatility by easily changing between center-back and right-back positions, as well as playing an important role in a double pivot formation. His contributions were important in Manchester City’s treble-winning season.
Guardiola, who rates Stones highly, is ready to make him one of the club’s highest earners if he agrees to the new deal. Additionally, when Stones extended his contract in 2021, he indicated that negotiations for a new contract will begin during the 2023/2024 season.
This move highlights the importance of maintaining Stones, who continues to progress and develop as a leader within the team, regardless of Guardiola’s future at the club beyond 2025.
Stones, whose style is less dependent on physical assets, is expected to stay in top form for the time being if he can improve his injury record. Guardiola’s desire for Stones to commit long-term bodes well for Manchester City’s chances in the coming years.
