Pep Guardiola confirms major injury setback for two defenders.
Man City first-team defender John Stones was taken off at half-time in the 3-0 win over Young Boys on Tuesday night.
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that the England international is expected to be out for a while and could miss games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in the following weeks.
Stones has already missed the first games of the season and just returned last month but the defender has endured another setback.
His fellow teammate Manuel Akanji withdrew from the squad with a back injury but is expected to be fit for City’s trip to Chelsea on the weekend.
“Manuel had a problem in the back, it was block,” the City boss told TNT Sports at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. “And when this happens, it is out.
“And unfortunately John felt again, so. I feel so sorry for him because he is so professional and committed.
“It is a big loss for us. John is so important with what he does. Recover and the season is long, we’ll be back stronger.”
