West Ham favourites to sign Kalvin Phillips this January

Kalvin Phillips has a lot of potential suitors for a move this winter.

The England international has fallen way down the pecking order since the arrival of Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes in the summer.

Phillips was given the chance to leave in the summer but the midfielder decided to fight for his place at the Etihad.

The result has been short of disappointing, as the former Leeds United midfielder made only two starts this season.

He has endured a difficult 18-month campaign since his move from Elland Road in the summer of 2022.

Phillips’ contract with Man City expires in the summer of 2028 and a host of clubs are trying to sign him this month.

Newcastle United were considered frontrunners for his signature but pulled out of the race after Man City’s demands of a £6-7 million loan fee.

But West Ham have reportedly advanced in talks for the outcasted midfielder and are willing to pay the desired fee to sign him until the end of the campaign.

David Moyes has been a long-term admirer of Phillips and could make the Man City outcast his first signing of the winter.

Phillips is keen to secure his name in the England Euro 2024 squad and will need more game-time assurances from potential suitors.
