Bernardo Silva confessed he wants to return to his boyhood club Benfica.

The Portuguese midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona and PSG even after he decided to pen a new contract until the summer of 2026.

Since his arrival from Monaco in the summer of 2017, Silva has been a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s side and has won 14 trophies as a Citizens player.

Silva has a £50million release clause that could be activated if the midfielder decides to seek pastures next summer.

The playmaker’s long-term future with Manchester City remains uncertain and an exit can be anticipated after the business end of this campaign.

The 29-year-old revealed that he wishes to return to boyhood club Benfica when he turns 32.

“I won’t hide that my goal in the coming years, if something good happens elsewhere, will probably be to move to a new project,” Bernardo told Record.

“If you ask me: what did you think 10 years ago? My goal was to return to Benfica at the age of 32 at the most. What do I think today? It depends on what happens next summer.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s not something I don’t think about. I think about it every year. It has always been a goal.”
