Southgate gives injury update on Manchester City defender John Stones

John Stones signaled to be withdrawn after jarring his leg when attempting to retrieve the ball.

England were playing against Belgium in an international friendly last night ar Wembley and Man City defender John Stones suffered a problem. Gareth Southgate has also defended his decision to select him on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old sustained an ‘adductor problem’ at Wembley Stadium. He was given another start in central defence, this time partnering Lewis Dunk.

Stones played a full 90 minutes for England in last weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Brazil. But, last night’s appearance lasted for just 10 minutes. He signalled to be withdrawn after jarring his leg when attempting to retrieve the ball.

England teammate Kyle Walker lasted just 19 minutes against Brazil after tweaking his hamstring. Both players are in doubt against Arsenal. Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish (both groin) and Ederson (muscle) are already sidelined for the Premier League showdown.

Gareth Southgate soeajs, as quoted by The Athletic: “Well, no, the first game – we measure everything – the first game for him wasn’t a game that was a high level in terms of the intensity.

“We’ve done exactly what Holland did with Virgil van Dijk tonight, what Norway did with [Erling] Haaland and [Martin] Odegaard, starting them again, Holland also started [Nathan] Ake again.

“So it only ever seems to fall on us when there’s a question around that. Of course, we’re disappointed if he’s got a problem, it seems to be in the adductor area, so we just have to see.

“John also came in on the back of not having played for two weeks, so it’s not that it’s an overload situation. But I hate sending players back to their clubs if they’re not fully fit.”

Man City faces an injury scar ahead of top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal

Gareth Southgate was asked about Walker’s injury after the game.

Manchester City has faced a fresh injury scar during the international break. Kyle Walker might be sidelined due to injury in Premier League showdown against Arsenal next Sunday.

Man City defender was captaing the Three Lions squad in place of Harry Kane at Wembley. Endrick’s 80th-minute strike propelled Brazil to a 1-0 victory.

Kyle Walker had already been off the field for over an hour. The 33-year-old sustained an injury in the first 20 minutes of the match. He had sprinted back to intercept Vinicius Junior’s goal-bound strike in the 12th minute, just a couple of moments before dropping to the turf with an apparent hamstring concern. He was later substituted by Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa.

Gareth Southgate was asked about Walker’s injury after the game, and he said, “We don’t know yet. He is feeling something but he is not a player who is injured very often so he’s not quite certain what it is. So it is something we have to assess in the coming days.”

Walker might be unavailable for Tuesday’s international friendly with Belgium at Wembley, Now, he will be in dobut for Arsenal clash as well. Man City are already dealing with injury concerns as Ederson, Kevin De Bruyne and Jack Grealish.

Manchester City and Chelsea lock horns over Giorgio Scalvini signing

Manchester City will face a hard competition with Chelsea for the sought Serie A star Giorgio Scalvini. Following his outstanding performances for Atalanta in the Italian top division, the 20-year-old defensive prodigy caught the attention of both Premier League giants.

Scalvini’s get to fame has been nothing short of amazing, with his enforcing presence in the back winning him praise throughout Europe. With a remarkable tally of 26 Serie A games this season, along with his knack for preserving clean sheets, Scalvini has clearly established himself as one of Atalanta’s best talents.

However, his rising reputation has not gone unnoticed, with Manchester City and Chelsea competing for his services in the upcoming transfer window. The prospect of obtaining Scalvini’s services caused fierce competition between the two English clubs, as they seek to strengthen their defensive ranks in the future.

With attention from other European heavyweights such Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Juventus, Scalvini expressed a strong desire to play in the English Premier League. This revelation has only fueled Manchester City and Chelsea’s interest in the young Italian phenomenon.

With both clubs possessing the financial resources to match Atalanta’s demands, the competition for Scalvini’s signature will likely heat up in the coming months.

As the transfer story progresses, all eyes will be on whether Manchester City or Chelsea will win the battle for the highly sought-after defender.

Man City striker was unable to complete the first-team training session on Tuesday.

Norway’s national team doctor has given injury concerns for Manchester City striker Erling Haaland who limped out of training on Tuesday. He already missed 10 matches across all tournaments with a foot injury.

The 23-year-old was sidelined for almost two months earlier this season due to a foot injury. He made a return to the club as a substitute against Burnley at the end of January.

Former Borussia Dortmund has since started each of City’s last 11 games. He has scored 10 goals in the process to increase his tally to 29 from 34 appearances across all competitions.

Guardiola spoke to reporters after the match, “He is not my player anymore from now on, what they [Norway] will decide will be fine.”

“They know that they fought a lot and train a lot, a lot of adrenaline and concentration to arrive in this position. They know they are friendly games and they have to handle it wisely. Hopefully they can do it.”

Few reports have stated that the Man City striker was unable to complete the first-team training session on Tuesday. He will not make an appearance for an international friendly.

Pep Guardiola is also concerned over the fitness of Kevin De Bruyne. He was released from the Belgium squad last week due to a groin injury. Goalkeeper Ederson is also doubt for the Arsenal clash with a muscle problem.

Ederson makes around £120,000 a week and City look to extend the contract of the 30-year-old.

Manchester City are prepared to open contract negotiations with goalkeeper Ederson. The Brazilian is one of the finest goalkeepers and he has been terrific for the club in finding victories at a big level.

The Brazil international joined Man City from Benfica in 2017. He has made over 325 appearances. Ederson won five Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups, a UEFA Super Cup and a Club World Cup.

As per the reports of Daily Star, the Cityzens are preparing to hold contract talks with Ederson in the near future. His contract will expire in the summer of 2026.

The Premier League winners believe it makes sense to begin negotiations over a new deal as soon as possible. The Brazilian makes around £120,000 a week and City look to extend the contract of the 30-year-old.

Ederson has featured 27 times this season and currently, he is out due to an injury in Man City’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool last weekend.

Stefan Ortega may also get a contract extension as his contract will expire at the end of next season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 22 matches.

Man City boss Pep Guardiola has made tribute to his squad after making into the semifinals of FA Cup 2023-24. The Cityzens secured a 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

Bernardo Silva scored two goals to push Man City for a silverware this season. It was their record-breaking sixth consecutive FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Pep’s men have extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 22 matches. They are going stronger to chase treble. They are sitting third in the table with just one point behind Arsenal. They already moved to the quarterfinals of the Champions League where they will meet Real Madrid.

Guardiola speaks at his post-match press conference, “To expect [to be] coming back from the last international break with two months left and be in contention for all the titles means a lot.”

“People talk about the Premier League and Champions League but when you win four Carabao Cups in a row and get to six FA Cup semi-finals in a row, this team and this club has something special.

“We want to win all of them but sometimes it is not possible because of the quality of the opponents and the schedule we have.

“I remember playing away in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and then at Wembley is so difficult. To arrive in your best condition in those situations is difficult but we were there.

“Always you can have a bad night but when you have six times in a row [FA Cup semi-finals], you have less bad nights. This is the consistency that proves people who doubt the team wrong.”

Pep Guardiola’s surprising revelation ahead of Champions League Quarterfinal draw

In a surprising turn of events, Manchester City’s revered tactician, Pep Guardiola, has made a candid admission ahead of the Champions League quarterfinal draw. The seasoned manager, known for his astute strategic acumen, has revealed the three teams he hopes to avoid facing in the upcoming knockout stages.

Guardiola, speaking to Manchester Evening News, disclosed his apprehension about crossing paths with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals. This revelation comes as a shock to many, given Guardiola’s reputation for facing challenges head-on.

Last season, Manchester City clashed with Real Madrid in the semifinals of the Champions League, culminating in a memorable 4-0 victory for Guardiola’s side in the second leg. However, the Spanish giants have proven to be formidable opponents in the past, leaving Guardiola wary of a potential rematch.

While Manchester City has yet to encounter stiff competition in this season’s Champions League campaign, Real Madrid demonstrated their resilience in a tight round of 16 encounter against RB Leipzig, narrowly progressing to the next stage under the guidance of manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Despite the recent successes of Manchester City, Guardiola’s acknowledgment of Real Madrid’s prowess hints at a respectful admiration for their storied legacy in European football. With Los Blancos enjoying a stellar season both domestically and continentally, there is a palpable sense that they could reclaim their dominance on the European stage.

As the anticipation builds for the quarterfinal draw, football fans worldwide eagerly await to see which path Guardiola’s Manchester City will traverse in their quest for European glory.
