Newcastle interested in signing Kalvin Phillips this January

Newcastle United will prepare a move for Kalvin Phillips.

The 27-year-old Man City midfielder is expected to push for a move this January as he faces an uncertain future under the management of Pep Guardiola.

Phillips moved to Man City last summer in a deal worth £42million but he has endured a difficult 15-month campaign so far.

He has made only one start this season- in the Carabao Cup defeat against Newcastle United.

Many thought Phillips would be given the chance in the starting XI after Rodri received a three-match domestic ban.

The out-of-favour midfielder was snubbed in City’s last game against Arsenal despite Rodri being suspended.

He still has five years remaining on his City contract and a move this winter would be an ideal decision by the 27-year-old.

Phillips might be forced to seek pastures new if he were to earn a place in the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen on adding some defensive solidity in his midfield and has identified the former Leeds United midfielder as a potential target.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City sanctions a departure for the struggling midfielder this January.
