Kalvin Phillips is expected to force an exit this January.

The Magpies are keen on landing a new midfielder in January as they are short on options in that position.

Kalvin Phillips came through the ranks at Leeds United and made his move to the Etihad in the summer of 2022.

He fell way down the pecking order since the arrival of Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes in the summer.

The England international has endured a difficult 15-month campaign since his move from Elland Road in the summer of 2022.

Newcastle United are interested in signing the Man City outcast on loan this January as manager Eddie Howe remains intent on bringing reinforcements after Sandro Tonali was banned from football until August 2024 following the betting scandals.

The likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in signing the 28-year-old defensive midfielder.

Manager Pep Guardiola recently admitted that he doesn’t see Phillips break into the first-team and is unsure about the midfielder’s future.

Man City would prefer a buy option for the midfielder and Newcastle definitely has the funds to make the deal permanent this January.
