Pep Guardiola wants Ilkay Gundigan to stay beyond the summer.

The German midfielder scored a brace for the second week in a row and has played a pivotal role in the latter stages of the title race.

He scored two sumptuous goals and provided an assist for Erling Haaland and City are just one victory away from securing the Premier League title.

Gundogan’s contract with Man City expires this summer and he has been heavily linked with a move to Camp Nou.

He made his 300th appearance against Everton for the Cityzens yesterday and will have to decide on his future in the coming weeks.

After the final whistle, Guardiola openly admitted his desire to keep Gundogan beyond this season.

“He doesn’t talk much but when he does everybody listens, this is the power of a leader,” said Pep Guardiola.

“He shows every training session his leadership, arriving on time, living the job. He can play holding midfield defensively too in games like against Burnley last season when you need physicality.

“He is so intelligent, so clever and can handle the pressure really well.”
