Pep Guardiola urges his side to get on the front foot.

Pep Guardiola urges his squad to secure a place in the Champions League finals.

He has called on the leaders on his side to stand up and take responsibility.

The Cityzens have failed to reach the last four since 2016 and Guardiola wants his players to prove themselves on the European stage.

“Now is the time to make another step, everyone wants it. The players first because they were sad when we were not able to go to the semi-finals,” Guardiola said.

“Tomorrow is another opportunity to prove ourselves. Nobody is going to give it to us – we have to win it, we have to do it.

“If we are good or don’t make mistakes, like we did against Lyon, we are going to do it. We will see but I’m so excited to travel to Germany, and for all the players and the club, to try to do it.”

Man City already have an Aguero replacement

Raheem Sterling could be a replacement for Sergio Aguero.

Sergio Aguero is set to leave Etihad when his contract expires in the summer and it’s a doubt whether Pep will make any big-name signings.

Sterling could become a replacement for Sergio Aguero according to former England centre-backs Joleon Lescott and Rio Ferdinand.

Lescott said: “I think we’ve seen a number of players in that position and no one’s disappointed.

“That’s the beauty of having someone like Raheem – at any given day he’s going to be faster than anyone, so he could be having a quiet game and then all of a sudden inject his pace into the game and destroy teams.”

Rio Ferdinand believes Sterling can adapt his game to play through the middle and score more goals.

Ferdinand said: “He’s scoring goals and he needs to get into positions.

“That’s the difference, since he’s come to Man City, he’s absorbing the coaching of where to be in the box to get opportunities and create chances.

“Twenty-four shots on target, 12 shots off target, and nine goals all within the goal mouth and that’s as a wide player.

“Wide players normally want to hug the touchline.

“If you want to get 23, 24 goals, you can’t be hanging around out wide. It’s not something that’s happened overnight, it’s something he’s looked at and it was nice to hear he’s almost become a student of the game.

Kevin De Bruyne's Father Credits Guardiola For Unlocking Player's Another Dimension

Kevin De Bruyne has just agreed to a contract extension with Manchester City.

The PFA Player of the Season winner has gone from strength to strength under Pep Guardiola and is now hailed as one of the world’s very best midfielders.

His father believes it was Guardiola who managed to get the best out of him. Herwig De Bruyne, Kevin’s father, told HLN Sport, “If he is happy in his life, then so are you as a parent.

“I also think Pep Guardiola has added an extra dimension to Kevin. He pushed him into that (leader) role. Gave him more responsibility because he knew his shoulders were strong enough to carry it.”

De Bruyne has been the most consistent and creative player for City since his arrival in 2015. The Cityzens shelled out €75m for his signature. Now, the 29-year-old is set to stay on until June 2025 as Guardiola continues to play him as the central attacking presence in the side.

Manchester City are now top of the Premier League with a quarter-final second leg tie coming up against Borussia Dortmund. De Bruyne has not enjoyed his most prolific season ever but he still has 24 goal contributions in 33 appearances this term.

Pep Guardiola – Leeds United Defeat Not Down To Team Selection

Pep Guardiola - Leeds United Defeat Not Down To Team Selection

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola stood firm on his choice of players for the loss against Leeds United.

There were quite a few changes to the starting XI in anticipation of the Champions League quarter-final tie on Tuesday.

City equalized late into the game after Stuart Dallas broke the deadlock in the first half. A red card for Leeds shifted the tide completely towards City’s favour. But a brilliant bit of counter-attack saw Dallas retake the lead for his team in the dying minutes of the game.

“When you lose [the team selection is a mistake], when we win, I am a genius,” he said afterwards. “I do not regret [the selection] because I trust them. If I didn’t trust them, they would not play.

“Everyone was good. It was a game of transitions. We had to avoid it, they did it. At 10 v 11, we need inspiration and we can’t let them run [from deep]. We did it for a long time but then Raphinha had a chance and Eddie saved – and then they scored.

“When you attack and attack and attack, you have to control and not let them run.”

Marco Bielsa described Guardiola as ‘magical’.

Man City will play Leeds United at the Etihad on a Saturday afternoon.

Previously Guardiola admitted that Bielsa was influential in his younger days as a manager and always looked up to him as a role model.

Marco Bielsa described City manager Pep Guardiola as someone ‘magical’.

Guardiola said: “I’m overwhelmed, I feel weird.

“He’s the most honest person. I’m pretty sure what he says is what he believes. He doesn’t say or do anything for the media for the reputation of himself.

“That’s why I’m overwhelmed. Everyone knows the admiration and respect (I have for him), the way he helped me in my beginnings.

“Always he’ll be there in my heart and that’s why I am always, ‘Wow’. Always I feel I don’t deserve it because if there’s one person who can search or find the secrets, the way we want to do it, the way we want to play, it’s him, through his work ethic and especially his knowledge about the game.

“I know how tough it will be on Saturday at 12.30 but hopefully we’ll be prepared to compete because, as part of this, we are three games away from being champions and this is another opportunity to make a bigger step.”

Man City have a Champions League problem claims Muller

Thomas Muller gives a blunt verdict on Man City’s Champions League problem.

Thomas Muller believes the randomness of Champions League ties can cause Man City problems.

He believes the Cityzens have a better chance of being successful in domestic competitions than in European competitions because of two-legged ties.

Muller said: “A team with Pep Guardiola is always in shape to win it but the problem is in the Champions League, in the knockout stage, you have only two games and many crazy things can happen.

“And last year in the tournament, there was only one game against Lyon. Maybe if there were two games they go to the next round, maybe.

“That’s the problem when you have only one chance or only two games, there is more ‘random’ than in 38 games like in the Premier League.

“In the last two years, Liverpool was amazing. But normally a good team with Pep Guardiola wins the league, for sure.

“The continuation, how he prepares his teams. His team against smaller teams, he is the best. But when two top teams play against each other, the difference is not big enough to put away the ‘random’.”

Marco Bielsa has huge admiration towards City manager Pep Guardiola.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa claims he has given up trying to imitate Pep Guardiola.

Both the managers meet on a crucial weekend tussle at the Etihad Stadium.

“He’s a magical man. What he knows how to do is extremely difficult for me to try [to copy] and I’ve already given up, but I have genuine admiration for what he does,” Bielsa told DAZN.

“Interpreting the novel decisions that he incorporates into a game is already a way of falling in love with football.”

Pep Guardiola has also expressed his admiration towards Bielsa despite boasting a far superior record in terms of trophies won.

“He is probably the person I admire the most in world football – as a manager and as a person,” said Guardiola. “I think he is the most authentic manager all the time. In terms of how he conducts his teams, he is unique.

“The value of the manager does not depend on how many titles he has won. My teams have won more titles than him but in terms of knowledge of the game, I am still below him.

“His teams are always a joy to watch; how honest they are, they always want to attack and produce good football for the spectators.”

Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new contract with Manchester City.

The Belgian midfielder has signed a contract extension with the Cityzens that will tie him at the club until 2025.

He had two years remaining on his previous contract and now seeks to see out the remainder of his career at the Etihad.

“I could not be happier, since joining City in 2015, I have felt at home,” De Bruyne said after his contract was confirmed.

“I love the fans, my family are settled here in Manchester and my own game has developed really well.

“This football club is geared for success. It offers me everything I need to maximise my performance, so signing this contract was a straightforward decision. I am playing the best football of my career and I honestly feel there is more to come.

“Pep and I see football in the same way. Having that relationship with a manager is so important to me because our objectives are totally aligned, and we want the same things.

“My focus now is on ensuring we have a successful end to the current campaign. Our results and performances so far have been excellent, but we need to make sure we end the season with the silverware we deserve.”

Aguero advised by a former teammate to stay in the Premier League after leaving Man City.

City’s all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero will leave Etihad in the summer and speculations on his next move is been doing the rounds.

The 32-year old striker potentially has intriguing options to consider in England.

Former City teammate Gael Clichy believes Arsenal would be a good fit for his former teammate but still expects the Argentine to head for Spain in the summer.

“I could see him staying in the Premier League, because he will want to climb to third or second [in the all-time top goalscorers charts],” Clichy told Stadium Astro.

“He can get there, for sure. Does he want that? Ten years with Manchester City is enough, I think he will move where he can enjoy it a bit more.

“Can he see himself at another English club? That’s the question. He loves the sun.

“I would like to see him stay [in England] to get to second or third in goals, but I think he will move away from the Premier League.

“I think Arsenal is a good fit, in terms of style of play. They play nice football and they create opportunities, but I really doubt he would go there.

“I’m pretty sure he will go to Spain.”

Pep Guardiola heaps praise on Erling Haaland ahead of the Dortmund clash.

The 20-year old Norwegian has become one of the hottest properties in Europe after becoming the youngest player to reach 20 career goals in the Champions League.

He has now scored 33 goals in 32 games for Dortmund this season and many top European clubs are linked with a move for the young forward.

Haaland is believed to be on the radar for a potential replacement for Sergio Aguero who’s leaving Etihad when his contract expires in the summer.

Guardiola is well aware of Haaland’s qualities as they prepare to welcome Dortmund to the Etihad for the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday.

“He’s exceptional for his age. The numbers speak for themselves,” Guardiola told reporters on Monday.

“He can score right, left, counter attacks, in the box, headers. He’s a fantastic striker, everyone knows it.

“He’s only 20. To score that many goals at this age, it’s not easy to find a player like that.

“A blind guy can realise he’s a good striker, it’s not necessary to be a manager.”
