Pep Guardiola, the manager of City, is one of the three candidates for the prestigious Best FIFA Men’s Coach award in 2022
The award honours outstanding coaching accomplishments in the men’s game from August 8, 2021, to December 18, 2022. Guardiola guided City to an incredible fourth Premier League victory in five years, which was capped by a thrilling finish to the 2021–2022 season in which we rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Aston Villa 3-2 in the pivotal last game of the year.
City once more received praise from the general public for the striking manner of our most recent title victory. The Club scored 99 goals throughout the season and once again produced a blend of beguiling, offensive football.
The Catalan also guided City to the semifinals of the Champions League before we were eliminated painfully by Real Madrid in the second leg in extra time. Pep was among the initial five individuals shortlisted, and has since been chosen as one of three finalists by an international jury made up of men’s national team coaches, captains, football journalists, and fans who cast votes on FIFA’s official website.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who led the Spanish powerhouses to a Champions League and La Liga double during the 2021/22 season and also won the Supercopa de Espana and the 2022 UEFA Super Cup, is also vying for the prize. Lionel Scaloni, the head coach of Argentina, rounds up the list of nominees after leading the South American country to World Cup triumph in Qatar in 2022. Each voter selected their top three candidates for the award from the initial selection of five.
Nominees were awarded points based on their placement (five points for first, three for second and one for third). Each of the four voting groups—coaches, captains, journalists, and fans—contributed 25% to the final vote total. The person with the highest votes will be given the Best FIFA Men’s Coach Award. The winner will be revealed during a ceremony in Paris on February 27, 2023. Before the awards ceremony, everyone at City wishes Pep luck.
