Kieran Tierney tipped to join Manchester City in the summer.

The popular Arsenal left-back made 62 appearances for the Gunners since his arrival from Celtic and is one of the consistent defenders under Mikel Arteta.

He could make a surprise move to Manchester City as Benjamin Mendy failed to make his chances count.

This is according to former Celtic manager Neil Lennon who sees Tierney joining Manchester City for the right price.

He still has three years left on his contract with the Gunners and will be given a new leadership role under Mikel Arteta.

“When I had him at Celtic, Kieran was really confused about what to do in terms of leaving because the club meant so much to him,” Lennon said.

“Ambition and finances meant he made the right call for his career. For me, he’s Arsenal’s best player.

“I could see him going to Manchester City, he’s got all the tools to play for them.

“He’s maybe not got the all-rounded left foot that Andy [Robertson] has, that natural whip, but he’s got everything else and he sees things. He’s so athletic and powerful.”

Raheem Sterling scored the only goal in England’s opening game against Croatia.

The Manchester City winger has now scored 13 goals in his last 17 England games.

Sterling who has struggled for Manchester City in the past few months has convinced Southgate with his goalscoring record to keep faith in him.

Gareth Southgate explains how Sterling has earned an opportunity to prove his worth due to his previous international goal-scoring record.

Southgate said: “Raheem has had this hex in the tournaments and not being able to get the goal, I felt he was dangerous all day, right from the start he was a thorn in their side. I’m really pleased for all of them.

“He is a good player, his goal-scoring record suggests we should have faith with him, especially in the last few years.

“We know we’re going to need that depth. We’re going to need all those attacking players and there were a couple who didn’t get on today.

“We will need those guys through the tournament.”

England Told To Use Raheem Sterling As A Super Sub

England Told To Use Raheem Sterling As A Super Sub

Jose Mourinho is aware of Raheem Sterling’s best traits.

Despite undergoing a season of poor form, the Manchester City forward made it into Gareth Southgate’s team for the 2020 Euros.

England go up against Croatia in their first game and Mourinho wrote for The Sun: “I wouldn’t start Raheem Sterling and I don’t think he would mind that as much as you’d imagine.

“For me, Sterling is a player to come from the bench, to kill opponents who are tired and who have yellow cards.

“If you take off a more technical player, like Phil Foden or Jack Grealish, and replace him with a player with speed to attack the space, I would say Sterling is a player for that role.

“If that happens and brings Sterling an extra boost of confidence, then of course he has the quality to start.

“I know Sterling is an experienced player and has been a regular England starter for many years, but I want to believe the national team is a special habitat. Especially in tournaments.”

Sterling played regularly in England’s 2018 World Cup campaign alongside Harry Kane and Jesse Lingard in attack. Now, the competition is tougher for starting roles with younger and more capable players like Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish coming through the ranks.

SHOCKER: Raheem Sterling Could Rejoin Liverpool

SHOCKER Raheem Sterling Could Rejoin Liverpool

Raheem Sterling is on the verge of leaving Manchester City.

Latest reports claim that the Englishman could even make a shock return to Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola’s patience has definitely been tested this season after a string of poor performances from Sterling this season. The forward was woeful in key matches, including the Champions League final against Chelsea.

Fans previously were expecting to see the 25-year-old handed a new contract with a significant pay bump. Now, they wish to see the back of him. Sports finance journalist Alex Miller revealed that Sterling also recently dumped his agent.

Sterling has never bad mouthed Liverpool after securing his £50m switch to City in 2015. He instead was quoted to have said, “Would I ever go back to Liverpool? To be honest with you I love Liverpool. Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart. It’s a team that has done a lot for me growing up so…”

Manchester City Backed To Cash In On Aymeric Laporte

Manchester City Backed To Cash In On Aymeric Laporte

Aymeric Laporte might no longer be a starter under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

After a long absence with injury, the defender struggled for minutes last season, making just 27 appearances.

He is now behind Ruben Dias and John Stones in the pecking order with Nathan Ake following closely behind. If City are to compete for multiple trophies every season, they would require the depth and quality Laporte brings to the team.

But perhaps the players’ frustrations could end up being more of a hindrance to overall squad morale. Laporte is still just 27 years old, in the prime of his career and about to represent Spain in the 2020 Euros.

former England defender Steve Howey told Transfer Tavern, “They will be looking in the region of £65-70 million for him and I think if they can get that for him, then it will be good business.

“I think if they can get more money than they paid for Laporte, then I think it’s good business and they could probably get another couple of centre-backs to have in the squad.”

Guardiola can recoup a heft amount from Laporte’s sale and bring in an able replacement.

Phil Foden could have a major impact at the Euros.

The 21-year old enjoyed a blistering season with Manchester City and was named PFA Young Player of the Year.

Michael Owen, who is England’s youngest-ever player and goalscorer in the history of the competition believes Foden could be one of the greats of the game.

“I think he’s special to be honest,” Owen said.

“We can get carried away. I look at some people saying he’s the next such-and-such, and he’s the next such-and-such, and I’m thinking, ‘come on, he’s not even in the same stratosphere as some of these players we’re comparing them to’.

“Foden is different. I think we’re talking about someone that could be a great. He could be world-class. Everything he does is so easy on the eye.

“He oozes class and sometimes a player comes along every generation; I was one, Steven Gerrard was one 20 years ago, then a Wayne Rooney came along and I think Phil Foden could be another one that comes along.”

Kyle Walker Defends Guardiola – ‘When He Gets It Right Nobody Says Anything’

Kyle Walker Defends Guardiola - 'When He Gets It Right Nobody Says Anything'

Pep Guardiola has faced plenty of criticism for Manchester City’s defeat in the Champions League final.

His tactics seemed to be the point of concern which eventually ended in another heart-breaking loss in Europe.

Kyle Walker stepped up and defended his manager for dropping Fernandinho for Ilkay Gundogan in Istanbul.

“Listen, people can talk. I’ve seen a few things or my mates have text me about tactics, personnel, this, that and the other,” Walker told The Daily Mail.

“It’s a game of football, it’s 95 minutes and anything can happen. Obviously, we wanted the result to go our way but the manager, or whoever, he picks who he feels can go and get the result and what’s best for the club.

“When he gets it right nobody says anything and when he gets it wrong – or when they think he’s got it wrong – people are questioning things.”

“I think it’s a little bit unfair sometimes when as soon as Manchester City don’t win then it’s tactics or maybe players on the pitch, but we needed to do more and it’s as simple as that,” he added.

“I don’t think we created enough in the game and I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn by saying that, I think everyone could tell on the pitch.”

Guardiola Believes Eric Garcia Is Captain Material

Guardiola Believes Eric Garcia Is Captain Material

Pep Guardiola believes Barcelona should continue with Ronald Koeman.

Previously, the Spaniard had drawn links to his former club but he put all rumours to rest by signing a contract extension until 2023.

“Koeman is the ideal coach for next season, I spoke to Laporta and I am very happy the president is convinced,” Guardiola said to Cadena SER.

“I am a good friend of Ronald. It has been a difficult year for everyone and Ronald deserves one more year, with people in the stadium.

“Besides, second years are always better.

“At times the team has played very well, they are among those who played better football in Spain.

“They fell at the end when he was close to winning and Atletico won the league, but he won the cup and in general were very good.”

“I have a two-year contract at Manchester, I’m happy and so it will continue to be,” said Guardiola.

Two prominent figures left City for Barca this summer – Kun Aguero and Eric Garcia. Speaking on the two, Guardiola said, “Aguero and Eric Garcia are two great signings – Kun is a scorer.

“With Eric, I will tell Koeman that he has a spectacular fit, he is a good guy, really intelligent. He will be one of the captains of the next decade.”

Aymeric Laporte hits back at Deschamps after France snub

Aymeric Laporte hits back at Deschamps after France snub

Aymeric Laporte made his debut for Spain against Portugal.

The Man City defender switched his allegiance from France to Spain after years of being snubbed by Les Bleus.

He had a tough campaign this year after falling out of favour in Pep Guardiola’s pecking order at City behind Ruben Dias and John Stones.

France manager Didier Deschamps is not happy with Laporte’s decision of switching his international allegiance.

Deschamps said: “What makes me uncomfortable is what he might say, and that is a lie. The only message I received from him was in October about a precise situation regarding an injury he had sustained in September.”

Aymeric Laporte was asked whether he feels connected to his Spanish routes.

“Luis Enrique rang me to ask about the situation and I told him I wanted to play for the country, and to compete at the top level and I would love to,” Laporte said.

“It’s quite a strong question but I will try to reply in the best way possible.

“I will compete at the top level. The objective is the same as Spain’s — to win the competition. I will give everything to win with the national team and that is the important thing.”

Kevin de Bruyne underwent a minor surgery and will rejoin squad on Monday.

The Belgian international had minor surgery on his eye socket as he was injured in the Champions League final following a collision with Antonio Rudiger.

There were concerns that he could miss this summer’s European Championship but the small surgery made him available for international duty.

His recovery will be a huge relief for Roberto Martinez’s side who will be aiming for their first European title this season.

“It went very well, very positively. We are looking forward to Monday when he will join our squad,” Martinez told reporters.

“That small intervention was necessary with a view to the long term. He will not need a long recovery.

“The operation only took 20 minutes. The medical staff is satisfied with the result. De Bruyne is now doing well, that’s all.”
